When a home floods, parts, if not all of it, are uninhabitable until the damage is repaired. Human Endangerment & Loss of Life
From afar, flood water looks much shallower than it actually is. Cars are easily swept away in the water and there is little that can be done once the car begins to sink. Most recently, the Tax Day flood of 2016 claimed seven lives. See the table below for casualties of other flood events.
Emotional and Psychological Trauma
The loss of loved ones and personal property is a very stressful and traumatic situation. Additionally, victims of flood damage begin to lose confidence in the area; if their home flooded once, they believe it will happen again eventually.
Disruption of Daily Routine
Flood water prevents travel, so daily activities such as: school, work, church, and other cultural and recreational activities are cancelled. For example, the University of Houston cancelled classes for two days as a result of the Tax Day flood.
